EPEC Group was engaged by ACEN Australia to deliver the high voltage substation works for the 200MW New England Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Uralla, New South Wales — following ACEN’s successful development of the New England Solar Farm Stage 1. EPEC was awarded both the BESS and associated solar farm substation packages under separate contracts, acting as Principal Contractor for the delivery of both substations.
ACEN selected EPEC to lead this project based on our proven capability in delivering complex high voltage substation works and our established track record as a trusted electrical engineering partner in the renewable energy sector. The partnership reflected a shared commitment to quality outcomes and technical certainty — values that aligned closely with ACEN’s vision of leading the energy transition in Australia.
What set this project apart was the breadth of responsibility EPEC took on and the capability it required us to build. Delivering a full EPC contract for a 250MVA transformer substation, switching infrastructure, and control room while simultaneously acting as Principal Contractor across two separate substation packages demanded rigorous programme management and seamless coordination. To meet this challenge, EPEC successfully obtained Federal Safety Commissioner accreditation within an accelerated timeframe — a milestone that marked our first engagement in this capacity and meaningfully strengthened our capability to deliver future projects of similar scale.
