EPEC Group was engaged by PCL Constructors Pacific Rim to deliver the EPC High Voltage Grid Connection for the 176 MWAC Woolooga Solar Farm, located on the Wide Bay Highway in Lower Wonga, Queensland. The project involved managing the critical interface between a 132/33kV substation and the wider solar farm generation infrastructure, connecting into Powerlink’s HV network.
PCL selected EPEC based on our early involvement and technical expertise during the R0 phase, where we played a pivotal role in securing the connection agreement with Lightsource BP. This positioned EPEC as the preferred delivery partner for the subsequent R1 and R2 stages — a confidence that was further reinforced by EPEC already being listed in the tender documents as a recommended partner for this scope of work.
What set Woolooga apart was EPEC’s ability to self-perform both the R1 and R2 scopes — a consolidation that PCL had not been able to achieve on previous projects. By removing the demarcation points between multiple contractors, EPEC reduced complexity, improved accountability, and delivered significant time savings for the client. Despite unprecedented rainfall events impacting the Gympie region during construction, EPEC energised the HV grid connection within the original contracted dates, achieved zero LTIs or MTIs across the project’s duration, and delivered a seamless connection to Powerlink’s network — demonstrating the kind of reliable, expert-led delivery that EPEC is known for.
