Commissioning Technician

About the Opportunity

EPEC Group is an electrical engineering contractor providing HV Grid Connection, Engineering and Commissioning Services in the Renewable Energy sector.

We are looking for a Permanent Full Time Commissioning Technician to join our team based in South Brisbane, ensuring substation primary plants are commissioned in accordance with appropriate policies and procedures. This role will provide a professional technical consultancy and management service through the application of well-developed engineering capability.

Key responsibilities

Technical Delivery

  • Perform commissioning and integration of primary substation equipment through provision of testing and commissioning services, ensuring procedural technical compliance and risk analysis components are delivered efficiently, within scope.
  • Provide advice relating to substation commissioning requiring proficiency in engineering techniques and methods, which may be subject to review. 
  • Assist with the development of inspection and test plans for substation primary plant.
  • Perform testing on complex primary plant in substations without supervision.
  • Assist with planning and organising of testing requirements with project managers and/or commissioning managers to ensure timing schedules and budgets are achieved for capital projects.
  • Assist with the preparation of commissioning reports and supporting technical documentation associated with Primary Plant testing and commissioning activities.
  • Review electrical designs for High Voltage Substation projects.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to installation teams and subcontractors during primary plant installation.
  • Participate in training sessions and knowledge transfer activities to enhance team capabilities in primary systems commissioning

Additional Tasks outside of Projects

  • Support the Field Services Business unit with field related activities (including HV Switching). 
  • Provision of an ‘electrically qualified / licensed’ site presence when required.

Safety

  • Commitment to ensuring a high standard of compliance with safety legislation, policies and procedures for all projects, ensuring all WH&S obligations are met. 

About you

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with test equipment and tools required during primary plant commissioning.
  • 2+ years of experience in commissioning primary plant in high voltage installations. 
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations related to primary plant commissioning. 
  • Strong interpersonal and service management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Essential Qualifications

  • QLD Electrical Fitter Mechanics License. 
  • A Current C Class Driver’s Licence.

Desirable

  • Associate Degree/Diploma (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering.
  • Nationally accredited HV Switching Certificate.
