NEM Market Modelling Using PLEXOS & PSS®E

EPEC’s Electricity Market Modelling service connects market dynamics with the physical realities of the power system. Using industry-leading tools including PLEXOS and PSS®E, we produce robust, half-hourly forecasts that reflect real network constraints, generator behaviour, and system limitations across the NEM.

Our integrated approach supports the full project lifecycle — from early-stage feasibility and site selection through to long-term capacity planning, revenue forecasting, and operational analysis. By explicitly modelling network constraints, congestion, and stability limits, we deliver accurate MLF forecasts, credible price outcomes, and defensible investment insights.

EPEC is trusted by renewable and battery energy storage (BESS) developers to deliver market modelling that stands up to scrutiny and supports faster, more confident decision-making.

Grid-to-Revenue Investment Decision Services

From first feasibility study to final investment design, our integrated electricity market and power system modelling is built on grid reality — not simplified assumptions. We bring technical depth and commercial insight together so your project moves forward on solid ground.

NEM Price & Dispatch Forecasting for Renewable Energy

EPEC forecasts NEM prices using its half-hourly PLEXOS dispatch model. Price outcomes are derived from a structured bid-band methodology supported by analysis and development of realistic bids for different NEM assets.

Volatility is driven by observed system behaviour, including network and generator outages, rather than random variation. Network congestion and constraint impacts are represented explicitly to support credible, decision-grade forecasts.

Frequently Asked Questions About Market & Network Modelling

What types of projects does EPEC support?

We support a wide range of projects including renewable energy developments (solar, wind, BESS), transmission network planning, policy design, and due diligence for asset acquisitions across the NEM.

How are network constraints included in the modelling?

We explicitly model network constraints using PSS®E and PLEXOS. This includes thermal limits, voltage stability limits, and dynamic stability constraints, ensuring that our price and dispatch forecasts reflect physical system realities.

Can you run multiple scenarios?

Yes. Scenario analysis is core to our approach. We can model various sensitivities such as demand growth, fuel prices, policy changes, and technology uptake to stress-test investment cases.

What inputs do you need from us?

Typically, we need project-specific technical parameters (capacity, location, technology type), financial assumptions if revenue modelling is required, and any specific scenarios or sensitivities you wish to explore.

Can you support due diligence reviews?

Absolutely. We provide independent technical and market due diligence, reviewing third-party models, validating assumptions, and providing a second opinion on revenue and curtailment forecasts.
